Scottish Terriers, Sunglasses and Doxycycline

A revelation in the middle of the night...that's what I had after being given a prescription for the wonder antibiotic, doxycycline. I woke up around 2 am..then 4...then 5:30.
At 5:30 I decided that I should do something constructive with my insomnia. Remembering my doctor's famous last words, as I left the office ("try and stay out of the sun while you are taking this...and wear sunglasses"), I had a revelation....an Epiphany if you will...

Sunglasses...

What did all of the delivery people have in common when they came to the door.....Gus could not see their eyes. All he could see were faces without eyes....alien faces...
Now some of you may balk at this, but I think we are onto something here. In a wonderful training article publicized by the Dog Whisperer, he suggests having different people visiting your new puppy to train him (or her.) If you have only a small pool of people on hand, the next best thing would be to have the same people visit, wearing different outfits....and scents.

I can see it now....Ringling Brother's Circus parading in, out, and around the house. All with an intent to de-stress Gus and acclimate Becky Blue Bonnet to her new surroundings.

If our neighbors didn't think we were a bit eccentric before, they will be certain of it now. I am thinking that if we have circus aliens with sunglasses, parading in and out of here for about a week, maybe G-dog will settle down....maybe....or maybe he will decide to join the circus himself!
And in the center ring we have Angus...the only Scottish Terrier that can see voices and hear colors!

Men in Black...or Blue...or Brown...

Gus hates them......all of 'em....if they are carrying a box and wearing sunglasses, watch out..

1) FEDEX...will kill on contact if could,
2) UPS...will tolerate to a point, but would kill if Mom were not looking,
3) USPS.....will growl and bark at, but when approached , will calm down with a treat.

Today we had what I would call, an "incident"...other people would call it crazy ( unless you have a Scottie dug.)I thought that our neighbor needed to borrow a couple of tools from the garage. I hear a tap at the door, and went to open it.

It was not our neighbor....it was #1. Mr. FedEx looked to be about 6'6" or 12' to Gus. Mr. FexEx stood there, saying nothing, and held out a box and a device that looked like a remote control for a robot ( I had to sign it.) Before I had the chance to even open the door ( thank GOD), G-dog hurled himself against the glass....now any of you who have one of these charming little dogs, knows what I mean when I say,"alligator jaws" or "shark frenzy". They snap first, and ask questions later. Fortunately we have never had an actual "incident" here.

We did almost have an incident once....it occurred when #2 attempted to make a delivery. G-dog appeared out of nowhere, charged the box, bit it, and ran up the stairs...not sure who was more confused, G-dog, the delivery guy, or me.

Bonnie, G-dog's mom, never reacted like that...Ryan did to a point, but not like my little guy. I have no clue why he freaks out like that when they appear at the door.

Possible Explanations:

1) He thinks that there are people coming to hurt his family.
2) He thinks that there are people coming to hurt him, or
3) He thinks that there are people coming to...............

Fill in the blank......ANYONE out there who can tell me why he goes ballistic like this?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Honestly ALL WEEK my mother kept telling me to slow down or I would get sick....Mom knows best and was right. Once again I thought I could undertake a major project and keep on going on just determination....not...well at least Gus will keep me company on the couch for a couple of days!

That's if he ever moves over! I keep telling him that Becky will be here before he knows it...I think poor Gus thinks that Becky will be coming via the TV ....oh boy!

Hope you all had a great weekend...am heading to crash on the couch with a bunch of pillows, a nice hot cup of tea with honey and lemon, and my scottie dug ;>)

In the meantime........

While we wait for Becky, we continue to work on the yard. It was like opening a can of worms , once the trees began to come down. One by one, a little more of the house can be seen ( not sure of that's a good thing...it REALLY needs some work on the exterior.

I'm not sure who's having the most trouble adjusting to the changes......me or the G-dog. Now that he can see more of the world, he's been a little grumpy ( can't say that I blame him ;o)
